Intention
“Every journey begins with the first step of articulating the intention, and then becoming the intention.” – Bryant McGill, The Voice of Reason
What is intention? The Cambridge English Dictionary defines it as, “Something that you want and plan to do. Synonyms include, aim, ambition, aspiration, goal, or purpose.”
Midlife is often a time when we discover that we really want to understand and clarify our intentions. We need to rediscover our purpose or find new meaning in our goals and values. We often set intentions to lose weight, start a new hobby, find a new path or a new career. Midlife can be a time when we realize our intentions have changed or no longer suit our needs and values. Before we can make significant changes in our lives, we need to spend time exploring and visualizing our intentions.
Something to think about:
Connect: Take a moment to think about yourself and your intention.
Clarify: List those intentions and why they are important to you? Where do you want these new intentions to lead you? Which one is the most important to you? And, why? Where are you with that intention now?
Commit: Become the intention. During the day actively check in with yourself to gauge if what you are doing is in line with your intention. Have you done something positive to support your intent? What action steps are you willing to commit to?
